Over the past 15 years I have been studying and testing different shallow running balsa crankbaits. After growing tired of never finding any that ran like my original "Legendary" brass eyed baits I decided to re-create them.

DURABLE FINISHES!
I have a wide variety of paint schemes available. I also have one of the most durable high gloss finishes on the market today. I have developed this technique over many years of trial and error. My high gloss finish will not spiderweb when an errant cast takes your bait into a dock, tree or rocks. Although, repeated abuse has an adverse effect to any and all paint jobs.

My name is David Ryan and I have been privately painting baits for
myself and other tournament fisherman for the past 12 years. Now I am
offering my custom paint jobs to the public. Like just a few others in
the industry, this is my only job. I have dedicated myself to the sport
that I love. Fishing for me is much more than just a hobby. I have spent
the better part of my life with a fishing lure in my hand.
I am offering something unique as well, I will be doing "Balsa B"
repair. I will be fixing old "B's" that have wood damage and replacing
broken or cracked bills. If you have invested the money in those old
"B's" from various auction sites, you want to get all you can out of

Ole' Big'un and Ole' Big'un Jr.
Dave's Custom Baits proudly presents the Ole' Big'un and the Ole' Big'un
Jr. swimbait hooks!! After becoming frustrated with not having the
correct hook for the hollow bodied paddletail swimbaits, I decided to
change that problem.
The Ole' Big'un is an 8/0 (60 degree bend) hook that has a screwlock
keeper for the nose of the swimbait to attach and a 1/2oz of weight
poured on the hook. This hook will only be available in black nickel.
No more clamping extra weight to the undersized hooks that have been on
the market. Or stuffing the hollow bodied baits with extra weights. Now
you have the correct size hook with enough weight to fish these baits at
deeper depths. This large hook does not compromise the swimming action
of these paddletail swimbaits. The 1/2oz weight lets you fish the
swimbait deeper while enabling you to have a quicker retrieve without
having the bait rise out of the strike zone!!
The Ole' Big'un Jr. is a 5/0 (28 degree bend) hook that has an extra
wide bite and a screwlock keeper for the nose of the swimbait to attach
and a 1/2 oz of weight poured on the hook. This particular hook is
perfect for the 4" and 4 1/2" hollow bodied paddletail swimbaits. This
particular hook will be available in black nickel and red.

Baits now offers a flat sided balsa crankbait. With the Fall season just
beginning this is the perfect bait to throw as the water starts to cool.
The Black Market Slim will be built with the same hand made quality as
the Black Market Balsa. All baits will be hand carved, assembled, water
tested and finally painted to the customers specifications by David
Ryan. The Black Market Slim is currently offered in one size,
approximately 2 1/2 inches long. Remember this, "SLIM TO WIN"!!
